Allotment Notes 2021 - Chitting Potatoes
Here we go! Now that I am able to get back into the garden and allotment I am bringing back Allotment Notes for a second year. I hope that you will enjoy following along. Use the #allotmentnotes on social media to join in or search it to find all of my posts in one place.
So without further ado, my first Allotment Notes post of 2021…
Here are my seed potatoes; This morning I have been putting them into egg boxes read for chitting. Chitting put simply means to break the dormancy and encourage shoots to form prior to planting. Egg boxes are the very best containers within my reach, if you can get hold of them I would highly recommend. I am using four varieties, including early and salad potatoes. If you are interested in the varieties: I have Foremost - a first early, Marfona - second early and Charlotte and Nicola - both salad. Actual planting will happen at the end of March, by which time they will hopefully have shoots!
