Seedling Time

Over the past few weeks I have been sowing my cut flower garden seeds. Here are a few, they might not look like much but as you will see later in the year they really do bloom into magnificence from that tiny seed.

In here we have nine different Hollyhock varieties/colours. The seed was donated by one of my neighbours Anne. Hollyhocks are proper cottage garden flowers, they will grow out of tiny patches of soil at the edge of tarmac. There is a patch in Sutton Valence that has sprung up for at least the past 30 years, possibly longer. They reseed themselves every year!

Broad beans grown individually in loo roll centres. This means that they are easy to transplant without much root disturbance. The loo rolls simply rot away. These are now almost ready to go up to the allotment!

Lettuce Saxo, one of the first seeds to show itself, prolific growers and a wonderful flavour.

Cuore di Blu - Italian fleshy tomatoes that are just popping through. My favourite tomato variety by far; I think that they have the best flavour. A large plump fruit that usually has ridges and is sometimes a bit ugly!
